Because of the delay in the regularly scheduled council meeting,
City Attorney Jeanine McIntyre has determined that City Clerk Swope is the
official presiding officer for city council, until new leadership has been
elected. Having said that, our next scheduled council meeting will be
held this next Monday, January 13, 7:00 p.m.
During this meeting, council will likely go into Committee of
the Whole to do elections for president and vice-president for the 2014
council. In the following days, the leadership of council will determine
placement of council members to boards and committees. As soon as I have
that information, I will place it on this blog.
I want to preface this portion by saying that council owes a
great deal of gratitude to Council President Carol Wood during the power outages. Ms. Wood ensured that council was continually informed as to the status
of the situation and she stayed in the office fielding calls and e-mails, all
the while being without power herself. Having said that, I am going to
request that the new president have council, probably in the Personnel
Committee, draft procedures for council to follow during future critical
incidents. I believe it is imperative that we have something in place so
that we do not miss a beat in serving our constituents regardless of who is in
the leadership positions.
